On April 25th, 2003 we celebrated Ron's official retirement, and his 40+ years
doing research by hosting an all-day symposium entitled "Comparative Perspectives
on Perception, Cognition, and Behavior: A Festschrift in Honor of Ronald J.
Schusterman." The symposium featured talks by some of Ron's closest colleagues,
including Bill Mason, Christine Johnson, Murray Sidman, Colleen Reichmuth Kastak,
Kathy Streeter, David Kastak, Dave Levenson, Patrick Moore, Whit Au, Sam Ridgway,
Marla Holt, Brandon Southall, Sofie Van Parijs, Steve Insley, Bob Gisiner, Burney
LeBoeuf, and Bill Evans. The event was sponsored by the Office of Naval Research,
the UCSC Institute of Marine Sciences, the Department of Ocean Sciences at UCSC,
the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, and the Pinniped Cognition and Sensory
Systems Lab.
Following a day of great talks, we celebrated in the evening with a wonderful
dinner, special presentations, live swing music, dancing, and best of all, the
amazing group of colleagues, lab alumni, family, and friends who came share
in the fun.
